The laser breaks the tattoo ink down into tiny particles, which are then gradually absorbed and removed through the body’s natural lymphatic system.
Laser tattoo removal works by directing highly focused pulses of light into the tattooed skin.
The laser energy is attracted to the pigment within the tattoo ink. When the light reaches the pigment, it breaks the ink into much smaller particles without needing to remove or cut the surrounding skin. Over time, your body’s natural processes clear these particles, causing the tattoo to progressively fade.
Treatment is carried out using a laser machine, which delivers powerful laser energy in extremely short pulses. This helps minimise heat exposure to the surrounding skin while precisely targeting the tattoo pigment.
Most tattoos can either be significantly lightened or removed, although the results and number of treatments required will vary.
Black, blue and red inks generally respond particularly well. Other shades, including aqua, green and yellow, can be more resistant and may only partially fade. White pigment reflects laser light and does not respond in the same way.

Every tattoo is different. As a guide, many tattoos require around 6–12 treatments, although the exact number will depend upon the ink, colours, depth, design and how your individual tattoo responds.

It is possible to completely remove some tattoos, while others may be significantly lightened rather than disappearing entirely. The final result depends on factors including the colour and type of ink, its depth within the skin and how your individual tattoo responds to treatment.
We recommend leaving a minimum of six weeks between laser tattoo removal sessions. This gives your body time to process and naturally remove the ink particles broken down during treatment.
Laser removal should only begin once the tattoo has fully healed. Although the skin may initially appear healed after a week or two, the supplied treatment guidance recommends waiting at least six weeks before commencing removal. A consultation can take place during this period.
Yes. An area that has undergone laser tattoo removal can subsequently be re-tattooed, whether the original tattoo has been completely removed or simply lightened ready for a cover-up.
